Botox®

Neurotoxin injections are one of the most popular cosmetic treatments to diminish the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, with Botox® being one of the most prominent and widely used.

Botox is typically injected into selected facial muscles in the upper face to temporarily weaken those muscles and prevent them from contracting (which is the cause of wrinkles), resulting in smoother skin.

Specific areas treated include frown lines, forehead lines and crow’s feet. Botox is also effective in facial contouring, and is used to soften the masseter muscle, popularly known as the “square jaw”.

Botox is an effective treatment to reduce excessive sweating (hyperhidrosis) in areas such as the armpits. Sweaty palms and feet can also be treated in this manner, but we recommend and only treat these two areas in extreme cases where the condition affects the patient’s lifestyle.

How Long Do The Results Last?
Results for lines and wrinkles typically start to show in 2 to 3 days, and will last 3 to 6 months before lines begin to return. It usually takes longer to see results for jawline reduction, but the effects last up to 6 months. To maintain the effect, you will need regular follow-up injections.

Is Botox Safe?
Botox is approved for cosmetic use by the FDA, and has been widely tested and used safely for several decades around the world.

Who Is This Treatment Not Recommended For?
Our doctors will advise on the treatment and determine if it suits your needs and health. Generally, women who are pregnant or breastfeeding should not have Botox treatment. Patients with conditions that affect muscle activity must consult a doctor for advice on its suitability prior to treatment. Also, please inform our doctor if you had Botox treatment(s) in the past.

What To Expect

Like most injections, Botox can be slightly painful with patients experiencing mild and brief discomfort (especially between the eyebrows). However, this is generally tolerable and quick. To improve comfort, topical anaesthetic cream and ice packs are used to numb the area prior to treatment.

Patients will see results in as little as 48 hours, with the effect lasting between 4 to 6 months.

Downtime

There is no downtime and normal activities can be resumed immediately after treatment.

If mild redness or bruising is present, a non-steroidal herbal arnica gel is offered to reduce this.

Side effects are rare, but some patients may experience headache or flu-like symptoms.

Prior to treatment, all potential risks and side effects will be discussed with you by our doctor and patient care counsellors.
